THE HERO METHOD

Everybody has a hero… That hero might be a family member or friend, or it might be a celebrity. It may be a sports star or public figure, or it may be a figure of fantasy such as a character in a movie, cartoon or comic book. Whoever, or even whatever, your hero may be does not matter so long as they are your hero. Now what makes a hero? A hero is a role model; someone who embodies and exhibits desirable character traits which inspire growth, discipline and the committed dedication towards a particular set of goals. The simplest way to describe a hero is someone that is looked up to and highly desired to be emulated.

At Hero Performance Health defining your hero is the most important aspect to improving health and quality of life. We believe that without a clearly established image of who we wish to become, our tendency to achieve our goals is already imprecise and distant. We see it time and time again, those who are unhappy with their health experiencing symptoms and disease, yet their only goals are, “I want to be healthy”, “I want this symptom gone!”, or “I need to work-out 3 days a week”. This is not enough to bring about a powerful and achievable change. Instead we must establish much more precise goals in terms of image, psychology, and skills & abilities. Image means beauty, physique, charisma, demeanor and the attitude that is expressed visually to the world. Psychology means mindset, views, knowledge, values and the attitude which are internal - the key driving force! And lastly, skills & abilities include that which belongs to sports, arts, crafts, profession and recreation.

A clearly established hero will serve as a packaged embodiment of characteristics and attributes fulfilling all three of these areas. It’s also important that we identify important personal goals that pertain to our unique values and interests. Often these goals may not directly belong to our hero but we integrate them on purpose. This integration is what we will call “the new you”! This is the you that you desire and strive to be; the splitting image of perfection in your eyes. Now understand that with striving and desire comes the tendency for suffering. Many philosophical schools specifically describe suffering as the space between what is and that which you desire. In this way the greater your desires are the more reasons you have to suffer and be unhappy with your current reality. For this reason we must be careful and strategic in breaking down our goals into several small attainable goals. This allows us to take control of our lives, be healthy and fulfilled without suffering lost in stagnancy. It also requires we shifts our mindset so to enjoy the journey and be happy with the adventure along the way.

Hero Performance Health professionals work alongside you to not only establish both your hero and high-end goals, but to also provide a strategic and achievable breakdown that will keep you on track, feeling fulfilled and motivated, as well as continually working towards “the new you”. When needed we provide the necessary, experience-based inspiration that will keep you hero-focused, particularly when times get difficult. Embodying our hero does not mean that we have become our hero, it simply means we have adopted this hero mindset and that we are consistently dedicated and in pursuit regardless of where we happen to be on the journey to herohood. Being healthy, good looking, skilled and successful is a full time gig. This is why the hero mindset is so important. Modeling one’s hero allows us to completely change our lifestyle to be in full-time pursuit of what we want and love. It also provides us with a simple image that represents the ‘why’ in ways that words can't quite fully describe.
We hear the word holistic being used more than ever and all that it means is that every aspect of the whole is accounted for. How does this apply to our heroism? Because when we embody our hero we do so on all levels. Our attitude, mindset and values shift. Our posture, actions and habits shift. We eat better, move better, smile better. All aspects of what make us human become focused in and optimized. It's give a whole new meaning to affirmation. With these holistic changes being implemented consistently as a lifestyle, results are guaranteed to come. With the initial results comes more results and as the momentum builds so does our pride and identity as a hero. As the momentum builds with time and experience, the pursuit only becomes easier and more fun, and before you know it you find yourself in a place where you’re suddenly able to achieve what were once only dreams. So who is your hero? Start your fun and fulfilling journey today and become the new you! It's our favorite thing to do!

THE 5 DEVELOPMENTAL PHASES OF MEN'S ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS

5 PHASES Pre-Competitive Phase (3-6 years old) As coaches developing gymnasts in the pre-competitive phase we’re establishing the base of a passionate love and understanding in the sport. If we were to liken this to growing a tree, this phase would deal with first selecting the seeds and then deciding where exactly we’d like to plant them. This phase is so important as its from which everything else must stem. Let’s begin with selection. In order to achieve competitive success we must first ensure that we’re investing our time and skill into the gymnasts with the most talent. If not then we’re not doing our best job as a competitive coach. The quality of gymnastics we produce is a product of both controllable and uncontrollable factors. Talent is one of those uncontrollable things, but how we select it is completely controllable! We just have to make that selection very early on and with a limited amount of information. There are 3 classifications of talent: 1

QI MERIDIANS & THE CIRCULATORY-LYMPHATIC SYSTEM

When working with a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine it doesn’t take long to hear the word “meridian” being tossed about. The meridians are fundamental pathways that display communications throughout the body. These meridians are a catch-all source to many of our physiological functions that traverse through the periphery into the limbs and extremities. The sake of this article is to dive into these peripheral meridians that are so fundamental to eastern medicine, and look at their role in regulating our circulatory and lymphatic system. Let’s begin by quickly defining these two anatomical systems. Anatomical meaning that they’re defined structurally in terms of common functionality and cellular make-up. The circulatory system is comprised of the blood vessels and all that circulates within them under the broad term “blood”. Anatomically the blood vessels are divided into three main divisions: that which carries oxygenated blood away from the heart (arteries and arterioles),

ARE YOU BREAKFASTING RIGHT?

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but more often than not we are doing it completely wrong! Breakfast is important because we are literally 'breaking the fast'! The body is especially susceptible to what we put in it when it's in a fasted or un-fed state. Our circadian rhythm is calling for digestion to be at it's strongest from 5-11 am. So if we're not too keen on eating in the early morning it might be smart to begin conditioning ourselves to be. Like a weak muscle, it may not take much to exhaust it but as we train it over time it becomes stronger and more capable, bringing a better rhythm to the rest of cycle as whole. The repetition of a manageably sized eating-load will adjust our body's natural rhythm. This can even help us to improve our sleep and wake up feeling more rested! Breakfast is not meant to serve as a heavy meal in terms macros like fats, proteins and ESPECIALLY soluble carbs! So don't! But what exactly has been marketed to
